Matthew James Turgeon
August 14, 1979 - July 5, 2021

Matthew Turgeon, The brightest star that ever shone, left us on July 5, 2021. Originally from Springfield, Massachusetts, he recently moved to North Carolina to be closer to his family. He thrived here and worked at a place called The Spot, he loved it and in a few short months made wonderful friends. His effervescent personality touched everyone he met. His heart was the size of the universe and kindness was his middle name.

For those who knew him, knew that cooking, The Golden Girls, Lil’ Kim and singing karaoke were just a few of his favorite things, and we can’t forget The Sound Of Music and Absolutely Fabulous!

Matt was predeceased by his father, Stephen Roland Turgeon. He leaves to cherish his memory, his mother, Doreen M. Turgeon and her partner, Don Frestler; 2 sisters, Kathryn Turgeon and Brenna Brazier(Turgeon). Matt will be greatly missed by his nieces and nephews, Gracie, Kylie, Connor, Maddalyn and Jackson, who brought him so much joy. He also leaves many Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, extended family and friends.

A memorial celebration will be held on Thursday, July 22, 2021 from 1pm-3pm at The Spot, 1006 South Lake Park Blvd., Carolina Beach, NC 28428.

Arrangements are in the care of Coastal Cremations, 6 Jacksonville Street, Wilmington, NC.

Matt…thank you for being a part of my life and helping to make my adolescence so much fun. I will carry with me all the memories we made, especially snow day breakfasts, bike rides to your dad’s house, hanging out at the center, watching “Drop Dead Fred” or “Stay Tuned” at least once a week, listening to Janet (Ms. Jackson if you’re nasty) and watching you perform the dance at the end of “If”, driving around in your SAAB listening to NIN and headed to the LL Cool J concert at Riverside, Lil’ Kim & Foxy Brown rap-alongs, having our pictures done at the Greniers (and Sears), drawing on our walls for our blacklights, and most importantly sharing countless secrets and laughs. I love you and you will be missed.

Doreen, Katie, Brenna, – I am sending you so much love. My deepest condolences.

    Dear Doreen, Katie, and Brenna,
From the bottom of my heart I am so deeply sorry to hear of Matthew’s passing. I am grief stricken over this news, and want you all to know you are in my thoughts and prayers. Your beautiful obituary spells out the kind of man Matthew certainly was. It made me smile, and made me cry. I have so many beautiful memories of Matthew with our family. He was one of a kind, who had a great big heart and an outstanding personality. I am so glad I had the chance to spend time with him back in March, if only for a short period. Please know he will be forever in my heart. May God give you the strength to hold on to the beautiful memories you have made together. Sending love to you all.

To my dear friend Doreen and her precious Katie and Brenna and grandchildren,
There are no words to express the sadness I feel with hearing of Matthew’s passing. Certainly a light snuffed out too soon. My memories of him are the same that everyone else has described. Handsome, entertaining, talented and a joy to be around. Although it has been many years since the “Senator St” days, he seemed to have kept his unique and lovable personality all through the years. A genuine gentleman. I will keep the entire family in my thoughts and prayers daily. He was a big part of my children’s lives growing up and all the fun they had and the trouble they got into at times too! The world needs more Matthews’, he will be sorely missed.
With a heavy heart I send you my love,
    Denise Jarry

My daughter and I were heartbroken to hear of Matt’s passing. I went to school with Steve from grammar through highschool and coincidentally Matt and my daughter became friends and share the same birthdate. We are so sorry for the loss to the family, and to a world where there are less people with such a positive personality and a beautiful smile, a gentlemen , a good friend . Our thoughts and prayers are with the family , and in particular to Matt’s mom. With our love , Lauren and Desiree deKastrozza.
