Hugh Lee Mozingo III
November 5, 1948 - September 8, 2021

Hugh Mozingo, of Onslow County, NC., went home to be with the Lord, on Wednesday, September 8, 2021 at his home in Hubert. Hugh was born in Charlotte, NC on November 5, 1948 to the late Hugh Lee Mozingo Jr. and Faye (Poovey) Mozingo.

In 1977, Hugh received a Master’s of Divinity, from Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary of Columbia, SC., and he spent the next 41 years pastoring Lutheran churches in Huntsville, Alabama, Hickory, North Carolina, Summerfield, Florida and Jacksonville, North Carolina.

He married the love of his life, Janice (Williams) Mozingo, and they were blessed to have 37 happy years together. He also leaves behind to cherish his memory, two sons and one daughter: Zachary and his wife Hyunju Mozingo, Mark Mozingo and Hannah Mozingo. Other family members whom he loved include his brother Paul Mozingo and wife, Bonnie, two sisters: Linda East and husband, Ken, and Pat Barnett. Hugh also had two grandsons, whom he delighted in, Elias and Finley, and a number of nieces and nephews whom he treasured.

Hugh had many interests. He enjoyed nature and outdoor sports including ocean fishing, boating, mountain hiking, camping, and golf. He was an excellent cook, and was also passionate about youth ministry. An avid reader, he loved reading the Bible and theology books of favorite authors Martin Luther, Watchman Nee, Elie Wiesel, A.W. Tozer, Oswald Chambers and Dietrich Bonhoeffer.

Hugh’s heart’s desire was to visit the holy land. In 2015, Hugh blessed 41 pilgrims from the Joy of Abiding Group by serving them the Lord’s Supper by the Sea of Galilee and baptizing some of them in the Jordan River. He was truly a servant of our Lord and is loved by many.

A Celebration of Life will be held outdoors at the Boathouse Creek Walking Trails Park, located at 401 Masonic Avenue, Cedar Point, NC. at 12:00 noon on Saturday, September 18th, 2021. Attendees are asked to bring a lawn chair. Luncheon will follow afterwards. Hugh’s sons are preparing their Dad’s Seafood Boil that he enjoyed cooking for his congregations. In case of rain, the service will be held at Grace Church located at 807–10 West Corbett Avenue in Swansboro, NC.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to: Grace Church of the Crystal Coast, Building Fund or the Preston Robert Tisch Brain Tumor Center at Duke University Hospital

Hugh will be forever missed by his loving family and friends, but they rejoice in the knowledge that he is with his Savior.

Welcome home thy good and faithful servants, enter into the joy of your Master. (Matthew 25: 21)

My sincere condolences to the family. I grew up in Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Charlotte with Hugh and his sisters and was so pleased some years ago to learn that he had entered the ministry. May you find much peace and comfort in all the wonderful memories you have of your times with Hugh.

My heart was deeply saddened when I heard of the homegoing of a true servant of God. I am asking God to wrap his arms around you like only he can and strengthen you in whatever way you need. With sincere sympathy
