Geraldine York Haynes
March 11, 1934 - December 17, 2017

Geraldine York Haynes, 83, of Wilmington, NC, died on Monday, December 18, 2017 at the Lower Cape Fear Hospice. She has at last gained the reward to which she is due, residing now with her Lord Jesus Christ in Heaven for eternity. She died peacefully, surrounded by her five children, family, and friends. In the eyes of her children, she was the greatest human being who ever lived.

Geri was born on March 11, 1934 in Harmony, NC, and was raised with great love by the Powell family of Mocksville, NC.  She proudly graduated from UNC at Chapel Hill in 1958 and became a registered nurse, working in the neonatal intensive care unit for 10 years at Rex Hospital in Raleigh, NC, and then for 23 years at New Hanover Hospital in Wilmington, NC.

She leaves a legacy of love, survived by her children Larry, Ann, Yorke (Cathy), Bill, and Chris (Kate), as well as eight grandchildren, Sam, Sara, Anthony, Zak, Eric, Emma, Maya, and Ellie. She is also survived by brother-in-law David Morvil, sister-in-law Marie Powell, many special and beloved nieces and nephews, and a special friend, Pearl Rowell.  She was predeceased by her dear friend Erma Steiner, with whom she had a joyous reunion upon her death.

A celebration of her life will take place at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, December 23, 2017 at Wrightsville United Methodist Church, Wrightsville Beach, NC.  In lieu of flowers, and at Geri’s request, donations may be made to: Wrightsville United Methodist Church, of which she was a member since 1974, or the Lower Cape Fear Hospice, at which she received the most awesome care to the end.
