Caroline Amelia Wendel
June 6, 1931 - July 16, 2019

Caroline Amelia Wendel was a woman who lived a life of love, charity, and adventure died peacefully in her sleep at the age of eighty-eight. She married George Wendel, the boy around the block and her high school sweetheart. They bought a beautiful house in Merrick, Long Island, and raised two beautiful children, Susan and William. Caroline was a devoted wife and mother, and an active contributor in her community. She volunteered for Campfire Girls and was a leader in her church. Caroline loved opera, cooking, bridge, her children, and most of all her husband George.

After graduating from Katharine Gibbs College in New York, Caroline enjoyed a career as the legal assistant for a large law firm in New York. Upon retirement Caroline and George moved to the seaside town of Calabash, North Carolina, where they quickly became active members of the community. Caroline joined the knitting club , quilt bee, and bridge club. She and her husband founded a non-denomination church, participated in Prison Ministries, and traveled around the world.

Just days before her death, Caroline expressed happiness with her life and how she lived it, and said “I’m ready to leave this body”.

Caroline is survived by her two children, Susan and William; three grandchildren, Todd, Francesca, and Katrina; and two great-grandsons, William and Benjamin.

A private Memorial Service will be held in the home.
